New Bern NC Bicyclist Elwin Thompson Seriously Injured In Accident With Pickup Truck
A gentleman named Elwin Thompson was riding his bicycle along N.C. Highway 43 on Thursday morning when he was apparently hit from behind by a pickup truck driven by a man from Vanceboro, North Carolina.
The accident happened around 6:30 am. According to available information, Mr. Thompson had taken significant precautions to ensure his visibility including wearing a reflective vest and utilizing a flashlight attached to his bike. It is not clear why the driver of the pickup failed to see Mr. Thompson. The driver has apparently been charged with violations of the NC motor vehicle statutes in conjunction with this accident.
Mr. Thompson, who is from New Bern, was taken to Vidant Medical Center for treatment of his serious injuries.
