Bicyclist Injured in Corolla, NC Bike Accident
A 62 year old woman from Pennsylvania was riding along N.C. 12 in Corolla on Sunday morning when she was hit by a van. The accident happened around 10:25 am near the 700 block of Ocean Trail. Reports indicate that a taxi van traveling in the same direction hit the woman as she rode along with her husband.
The injured woman was transported to Sentara Hospital in Norfolk, VA for treatment. The driver of the van was cited for failure to maintain lane control.
We certainly hope that the injured bicyclist is OK after this accident. Based on the facts of the accident, it would be worth investigating why the van failed to see the woman and her husband riding along the roadway. Hopefully, State Highway Patrol investigators checked the cell phone of the driver to determine if he was using his phone at the time of the wreck.
