Calvin Jefferson Killed In Littleton NC Hit-and-Run Bike Accident

A gentleman named Calvin Jefferson was riding his bicycle near his home on Tuesday evening when he was struck by a hit-and-run vehicle.  The accident happened near Mr. Jefferson’s home in Littleton, North Carolina which is located in Halifax County.

Police are searching for a sky blue Ford F-150 pickup truck that was last seen headed toward Justice Branch Road.  Anyone with information is asked to call the NC State Highway Patrol at 252-536-2224 during weekdays or 1-800-662-7956 during nights or weekends.

Burlington NC Bicyclist Timothy Lea Killed By Hit-and-Run Driver

A gentleman named Timothy Lea was killed while riding his bicycle on Saturday night by a hit-and-run driver.

The accident happened late in the evening on Altamahaw Union Ridge Road.  Another driver saw the accident and reports that the other vehicle was a dark-colored SUV.  Anyone with information about this accident is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 336-229-7100.

Durham Hit and Run Bicycle Accident Kills Cyclist Seth Vidal

A gentleman named Seth Vidal was killed on Monday evening while riding his bicycle on Hillandale Road in Durham, NC.

According to reports, Mr. Vidal was riding north on Hillandale Road near Interstate 85 when he was struck from behind by a car.  The driver of the car fled the scene but later turned himself in to police.  The driver has been charged with several crimes related to the accident.

Mr. Vidal was a well known member of the Durham bicycling community.

Kernersville Hit And Run Bicycle Accident Injures Biker Walter Mills

A gentleman named Walter Mills was injured last Tuesday after being struck by a car while he was riding his bicycle to work in Kernersville, NC.

The accident happened on East Mountain Street very early in the morning.  Mr. Mills was apparently wearing a reflective vest and the bicycle was outfitted with a flashing light on both the front and back of the bicycle.  Despite these precautions, he was struck by a vehicle while traveling adjacent to the westbound lane.  The car that hit Mr. Mills is believed to be a late 1990s Honda Accord which did not stop following the accident.  Police are still investigating.

Rooha Sheikh Killed in Outer Banks Hit-and-Run Bicycle Crash and Driver Sentenced

A serious bicycle accident in 2011 that claimed the life of the bicyclist has resulted in 10 days in jail for the driver of the car that hit the bicyclist.

The bicyclist, Rooha Sheikh, was apparently crossing the center lane of NC Highway 258 when a car came into the lane and struck her.  Subsequent investigations indicate conflicting stories about where the accident happened.  Nonetheless, the driver of the car fled the scene but was pulled over by police shortly after the accident.  The driver was found to have a blood alcohol content above the legal limit along with traces of cocaine.  The accident happened in Nags Head but the driver was arrested in Kill Devil Hills.

Carolina Beach Adding Bike Lanes

Good news for bicyclists in New Hanover County.  Carolina Beach is adding bicycle lanes on Harper Avenue from Dow Road all the way to the boardwalk.  The project is part of the Pleasure Greenway Initiative and is receiving support from the Wilmington MPO.

New Bern Bicyclist Heather Pfaff Killed By DWI Driver

A terrible accident in New Bern, North Carolina has claimed the life of bicyclist Heather Pfaff.

The accident happened on Wednesday at around 8:00 pm while Ms. Pfaff was riding her bicycle on Old Airport Road near Taberna.  According to reports, the driver that hit Ms. Pfaff was charged with DWI and other charges are pending.  Ms. Pfaff was 60 years old.

Jimmy John’s Delivery Bicyclist Hit By Car in Greensboro

A person making a delivery for Jimmy John’s sandwich shop in Greensboro was injured Thursday when he was hit by a car.

The accident happened on North Elm Street just at 12:00 noon.  According to reports, the bicyclist was injured but the injuries were not life threatening.  It is unclear what caused the wreck or whether charges will be brought against the driver of the automobile.

Bicyclist Zachary Tyler Killed in Wilmington Hit-and-Run Accident

A gentlemen bicyclist named Zachary Paul Tyler was killed late Thursday night in a hit-and-run accident in Wilmington, North Carolina.

The accident occurred on Wrightsville Avenue near Lumina Station.  The driver of the car apparently abandoned the vehicle near the corner of Marsh Hawk Court and Duck Hawk Court but police have now identified the offending driver as Judith Nemeth.

Leland NC Bicycle Accident Results in Death of Biker

An elderly gentleman was killed while riding his bicycle in Leland NC on Thursday night.

The accident happened on Old Fayetteville Road near Woodburn Avenue around 7:00 pm.  It is not clear what caused the accident and no charges have been filed as of this time. The bicyclist, who was 74 years old, was transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center but he did not survive.
