In an unusual situation, a Raleigh bicyclist was charged with with DWI after a wreck with a car on Sunday. The wreck happened near New Hope Road and Hollenden Drive in Raleigh. For more click here.
Unfortunately, the bicyclist was also seriously hurt in this wreck. Yet, the fact that the bicyclist was charged illustrates that the police will treat bicycles as vehicles under the laws of North Carolina.

According to MYFox8.com, a Winston-Salem man was critically injured on Saturday afternoon in a bicycle wreck. The wreck apparently happened at the intersection of Glade Street and Sunset Drive in Winston-Salem around 4 p.m.
Ibrahmi Atiq Myers was riding his bicycle across the intersection from Glade Street when he struck a Chrysler van. As of the date of the news story, it is not clear who was at fault or whether charges would be filed.
Hopefully, Mr. Myers will recover from his serious injuries. If you have a question about a bicycle wreck case and your legal rights, call Mike Malone at Hendren & Malone. We have handled bicycle wreck cases all across North Carolina.

I recently came across this article about a wreck in Wilmington, North Carolina. Apaprently, the wreck happened when a Honda car ran a red light and hit a gentlemen riding on a scooter.
The wreck happened Thursday night near the intersection of College Road and Oleander. The man on the scooter obviously came out of this wreck with injuries and was taken to the hospital.
This story continues an increasing trend in wrecks involving bicycles, mopeds, and motorcycles. Indeed, it seems these wrecks are occuring more frequently despite laws recognizing the right of bicycles, mopeds and motorcycles to use the road in the same manner as cars.

I recently came across this story about a bicyclist injured in a wreck in Yadkin County, North Carolina.
According to the article, bicyclist Gregory Sidden was riding on Center Road near Yadkinville when he was struck by a car driven by Dustin Keaton. Mr. Keaton was charged with failure to yield. Apparently, the wreck happened while Mr. Keaton was making a turn and failed to see the bicyclist riding in the opposite direction.
Mr. Sidden has been hospitalized with serious injuries but has been improving according to the article.
This is a typical wreck affecting many bicyclist and motorcyclists. Simply, car and truck drivers do not pay enough attention to bicycles and motorcycles and serious accidents are the result.
