Cary NC Hit and Run Bicycle Wreck Seriously Injures Bicyclists Lori Cove and Virginia Davis

A very serious hit-and-run bicycle accident in Cary, North Carolina has resulted in serious injuries to two bicyclists.  The crash happened on High House Road on Monday evening at around 6:45 p.m. near the entrance to Bond Park.  According to available information, Lori Cove of Raleigh and Virginia Davis of Cary were riding with two other bicyclists in the eastbound direction when they were hit bu a vehicle driven by Christopher Moore of Morrisville, North Carolina.

After the impact, Mr. Moore apparently fled the scene with one of the bicycles stuck in his windshield. Numerous callers reported the accident and Mr. Moore was arrested early Tuesday morning at his residence.  He has been charged with two counts of felony hit-and-run.

Ms. Cove and Ms. Davis were both transported to Wakemed for treatment of serious injuries.

Bicyclist Douglas Benge Injured in Lexington, North Carolina Bike Wreck

A gentleman bicyclist named Douglas Benge was seriously injured when he was hit by a van while riding his bicycle in Lexington, North Carolina on Saturday morning.  The accident happened on Cotton Grove Road.  According to available information, Mr. Benge was traveling south on Cotton Grove Road when he was hit from behind by a man driving a Buick minivan.

There is some indication that the driver of the van may have sneezed at the time of the accident but it is not clear whether that had any causative impact on the accident.  Apparently, the Lexington Police Department is still investigating the wreck.  Mr. Benge was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Hospital for treatment of his very serious injuries.

Asheville NC Bicyclist Chad Campbell Injured in Bike Wreck

A gentleman named Chad Campbell was on his usual morning bike ride on September 2 when he was hit from behind by a pickup truck in Asheville, North Carolina.

The accident happened on Newfound Road just off Leicester Highway.  According to available information, Mr. Campbell was riding toward Asheville on Newfound Road just before 7:00 am when the pickup truck hit him from behind.  The driver of the pickup has been charged with reckless driving.

Unfortunately, Mr. Campbell’s injuries are reported to be very severe and will require multiple surgeries.  We certainly wish Mr. Campbell well in his recovery from this terrible accident.

Wilmington NC Bicyclist Wilfred Antone Junior Killed in Accident

A gentleman named Wilfred Antone was killed early Sunday morning while riding his bicycle in Wilmington, North Carolina.  The accident happened near the intersection of North 23rd Street and Scientific Park Drive.  According to the limited information available, Mr. Antone was hit by one car and then run over by two other vehicles.  There is no indication as to whether charges may be brought against any of the drivers.

Raleigh Bicyclist Daryl Webster Killed in Harnett County NC Accident

A terrible accident in Harnett County on Thursday morning has resulted in the death of bicycle rider Daryl Webster.  The accident happened around 8:00 am on Christian Light Road.  According to available information, Mr. Webster was riding north on Christian Light Road when he was hit from behind by a person driving a Kia SUV.

The driver of the Kia has been charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, failure to reduce speed, and driving without a license.

Kill Devil Hills Bicycle Accident Injures Russian Exchange Student

A young woman visiting the United States from Russia was seriously injured in a bicycle accident early Friday morning in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina.  The accident happened around 3:22 am on US 158.  According to available information, the student was hit by a man driving a Nissan Altima.  After hitting the bicyclist, the Altima fled the scene but the driver was later apprehended.  The driver faces numerous charges including driving while impaired and felony hit-and-run.

The young woman riding the bicycle was apparently doing everything right under the law including riding with a light and reflectors.  Hopefully, she will recover from her injuries.

This wreck is very similar to a wreck several years ago involving a young Ukranian man who was killed in a hit-and-run bicycle accident in Kill Devil Hills.  In that case, we represented the young man’s family and brought a claim against the driver of the car and the bar that served him excessive amounts of alcohol.  After much litigation, that claim resolved for a significant payment to the family.

Woman Injured in Wrightsville Beach, NC Bicycle Accident

A woman riding her bicycle in Wrightsville Beach, NC was injured Thursday when she was hit by a truck.  The driver of the truck then fled the scene but was later caught and arrested.

The accident happened around 3:30 pm on Waynick Boulevard near the Carolina Yacht Club.  The bicyclist was a 78 year old woman who was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for treatment.  Fortunately, it appears that her injuries are not life threatening.

Child Seriously Injured in Randleman NC Bicycle Accident

A young boy in the Randolph County NC town of Randleman was seriously injured on Saturday when he was hit by a car while riding his bicycle.

The serious accident happened around 3:00 pm on Kelly Coltrane Road and the child was air-lifted to UNC Hospitals for treatment.  The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.

There is not much information available about this accident except that the driver of the car lives on the road where the accident happened.  Hopefully, the young boy will be OK and recover from his injuries.

Durham NC County Sheriff's Deputy Hits Bicyclist

On Friday afternoon, a Durham County sheriff’s deputy hit a bicyclist as the deputy was exiting the parking deck next to the Durham County Courthouse.

The accident happened around 5:00 pm at the exit onto South Roxboro Street.

There is very little information available about this accident except that the bicyclist was injured.  It is not clear whether the deputy will be charged in the accident.
